As with many of the University of Hawaii’s websites, TIM (Travel Industry Management) needed a refresh. The requirements included:
- Site search functionality
- More images
- ADA Compliance
- Security monitoring
- A new menu structure
- Content refresh
Working with a team of professors, staff and the Interim Dean, we migrated the site from Drupal to WordPress. We created an dynamic and relevant site, which includes photos of students and faculty, as well as the beautiful Mānoa campus. The department reviewed the content and updated the information. There are also many new pages. Several programs had developed sites outside the UH/TIM environment. Those were brought into the new site, and featured with the use of landing pages.
During the process, we were informed that we would need to implement ADA Web Accessibility (WCAG) standards into the site. This was not something that I had an understanding of, but with lots of research and participation in training sessions, I have been able to bring that into the site. This is an ongoing challenge, and I continue to work with TIM on maintaining a compliant site.
Since the site’s launch, I have also been engaged to assist with some site modifications, and am implementing SEO on the site using Yoast. I look forward to being able to continue to contribute to this website.
